Pathway Remote Instructor (ENG 106: Basic Writing)
Pathway Program, Brigham Young University-Idaho, April 2014-July 2014
After teaching on-campus sections of ENG 106: Basic Writing, I took a semester off to teach ENG 106: Basic Writing online via Brigham Young University-Idaho's Pathway Program.
Assignments The course structure followed an assignment gamut: Love Letter, This I Believe (Credo), Interview, Persuasive Essay, and a Persuasive Group Presentation. It was a challenge helping students with few or no writing skills perfect writing skills like show, don't tell; thesis development; structure and organization; and awareness of audience. Personal Insight What I most enjoyed about the Pathway course: getting to know the students on a personal level. Classroom-based courses feature a presence advantage; getting to know students online can be more challenging. Professional Development During my time with the Pathway course, I learned Jing and posted individual feedback videos. Also, I attended the Online Teaching and Learning Conference. |
