FDENG101: Foundations of English
History
FDENG101 was a roundabout experience for me. I served as editor-in-chief for the course's main text, I Think, and enjoyed reviewing the content contained in that anthology. (My favorite essays, incidentally, were Plummer's "The Ophelia Syndrome" and Calandra's "Angels on a Pin.") Ergo, it was a pleasure to be offered an instructor's position for material I loved already. Units & Assignments My section--uniform to all sections taught online--featured several important assignments broken into four units: Thinking about Thinking, Thinking about the Self, Thinking about the Other, and Thinking about Society. Assignments included a critical thinking essay, a This I Believe essay and podcast, an interview, and a research paper and presentation. Responsibilities As an instructor, I maintained consistent contact with my students by creating and posting weekly Notes from Instructor, answering course questions via email and discussion board, moderated online discussions, and evaluated student work.
